The new Timeline for Pages on Facebook rolled out today. Timeline for Profiles was as big hit, but will it be the same for businesses? Absolutely! The Timeline offers marketers a variety of ways to enhance their Pages on Facebook. Let’s look at the main benefits of the new Timeline for Pages.

Updated Page Look & Feel

The Timeline is a big update to the look and feel of Facebook Pages, which‚Äö√Ñ√Ælet’s be honest here‚Äö√Ñ√Ælooked pretty antiquated and boring compared to the fresh new look of Facebook Profiles. That problem is gone with Timeline being applied to Pages.

Marketers can now add a large cover image to their Page, allowing for a great deal of brand expression. Of course, the Timeline comes with, well, a timeline. The Page is now split into the two column format. This makes it easy for marketers to create a narrative of their brand.

Timeline Milestones

Milestones are a great new feature of the Facebook Timeline. Milestones are simply important points in time for the brand‚Äö√Ñ√Æsay, store openings, product launches, important announcements… you get the idea. More than anything, milestones present marketers with a means to tell the brand’s story.

What I find exciting about milestones is that markets can add behind the scenes information, point out major achievements in the brand’s history, and educate about the brand and the company overall. This humanizes and makes the brand far more interesting.

“Pinning” Content

Another great new feature is the ability to “pin” a post to the top of the Timeline. Essentially, you are making a post sticky so that it always precedes other content. Does this make you as excited as me? I hope so, because this feature gives marketers an amazing new set of possibilities to highlight new and interesting content.

While only one post can be pinned at a time, marketers can use pinning to highlight a call to action, brand statement or other message. Even images and other non-copy content can be pinned, so marketers can really use their imagination to draw attention to important information around their brand.

Private Messages

Brands can now send private messages to users. While I think brands are at their best when being transparent with their communications on Facebook, the private message has its place. The private message allows for deeper interaction. For example, a unique issue or a complex customer question that requires a lot more back and forth communication than can easily be done on the Page. This keeps the Timeline clean and uncluttered.

The new Facebook Timeline for Pages has a host of new features that will give marketers the ability to enhance their brand. The fresh look and feel gives Pages the same updated style that Profiles have been enjoying, and gives marketers new ways to showcase their brand. Milestone, pinning content and private messages provide marketers with new tools to engage and excite their fans and engage their audiences. The new Timeline for Pages will be a hit!
